David is an internationally recognised expert in contact lens design and clinical optometry. David holds Fellowships from the Cornea and Contact Lens Society of Australia and the British Contact Lens Association. David was honoured with the Hamlyn R Brier award for Clinical Excellence in 2019. David is an expert in contact lens design, therapeutic optometry, myopia control, dry eye management and clinical visual optics.

Damien graduated from QUT in 1999 completing a B App Sci- Optometry (First class honours) and a Grad Cert for Ocular Therapeutics in 2013. He has experienced a variety of areas within clinical practice and spent many years as a supervising clinician at QUT Optometry Clinic. In 2021, he completed a PhD examining the influence of scleral lens parameters and fitting characteristics on corneal oedema under open and closed eye conditions. He is a CCLSA Dorothy Carlborg research award recipient.
